What you get

PingMee is a location-based social app for meeting people near you in real time. Set a status saying what you are up to, see other people nearby who are open to the same thing, and send them a ping. If they ping you back you are connected, and a private chat opens for the two of you. Friendship, activities and professional networking are all supported, and you pick which ones you are open to.

The iPhone app is the full app, the same as on Android. It is completely free, with no subscriptions and no in-app purchases. It needs iOS 16.4 or later, and it also installs on iPad.

Installing on iPhone

  1. Tap the App Store badge above, or search "PingMee" in the App Store.
  2. Tap Get, then open the app.
  3. Create an account with your email address.
  4. Allow location access when asked. PingMee needs it to show you who is nearby; without it there is nothing to discover.
  5. Allow notifications so you know when someone pings you back, then set your first status.

Permissions and privacy

PingMee asks for location, and for notifications so you know when someone pings you back. Your exact position is never shared with anyone: other users see an approximate distance such as "2 miles away", never coordinates. You can hide yourself from searches at any time in Settings under Safety & Privacy, and block or report anyone from their profile or a conversation.

Messages are protected with TLS in transit and encrypted at rest. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is collected and what you can ask us to delete.

Having trouble?

If the app will not install, check that your iPhone is on iOS 16.4 or later (Settings, General, Software Update) and that you have space free. If nothing appears nearby, check that PingMee has location access in Settings, widen your search radius and confirm "Appear in Searches" is switched on in the app.

Still stuck? The FAQs cover matching, messaging and notifications in detail, or you can report a bug and we will take a look.
